Mercury’s Diana Taurasi named WNBA Player of the Week

Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi was named the WNBA Player of the Week Monday.

The ten-year veteran averaged 31.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and eight assists per game for the Mercury in wins over the Los Angeles Sparks and Tulsa Shock.

In Sunday’s 108-103 win over Tulsa, Taurasi pumped in a team-high 29 points, including eight in overtime to help the Mercury (3-3) seal their third straight win.

The weekly honor is the 15th of Taurasi’s career — which ties her for the third-most in league history with Lisa Leslie.

Taurasi and the Mercury return to the court Wednesday night when they host the Minnesota Lynx (4-1) at US Airways Center.
