Brittney Griner a game-time decision for Phoenix Mercury in Game 3 of WNBA Finals

The Phoenix Mercury announced Thursday that center Brittney Griner may not play in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals on Friday in Chicago.

Griner suffered an eye injury in Game 2 of the series, during which she also took a blow that chipped her tooth and bloodied her lip. She nevertheless finished with 19 points and four blocks in the contest, which the Mercury won by a score of 97-68, taking a 2-0 lead in the series.

In anticipation of Game 3 of the best-of-5 series, Griner is under the observation of team opthalmologist Dr. Jay Schwartz in Phoenix. She’ll be reevaluated Friday morning before heading to join teammates in Chicago.

This period of observation comes after Griner underwent an outpatient procedure to correct a retinal issue Thursday.
