Tyler Gabbert eyeing Arizona State, Arizona?

With a name like Gabbert you have to think he’s pretty good.

Tyler Gabbert, Blaine’s younger brother, has informed Missouri coach Gary Pinkel that he is leaving the program. Among his possible destinations? Arizona State and Arizona.

According to Sporting News, Chuck Gabbert, Tyler’s father, has contacted the two schools as well as Clemson, Iowa, Louisville, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and Arkansas State.

Why, though, is he leaving Missouri, the school where his brother had so much success?

The 6-0 Gabbert entered spring practices in a supposed dead heat with last season’s No. 2, James Franklin, for the starting job. After outperforming Gabbert in the Tigers’ spring game, Franklin was installed at the top of the depth chart.

This came as a big of an upset to some Tigers fans, who’d been hearing scuttlebutt that Gabbert would be the starter. But according to Chuck Gabbert, his son’s reps in spring practices had already been dwindling in comparison with Franklin’s.

How does he fit in the desert? Well, the Sun Devils are planning on another two years of Brock Osweiler, but could certainly use more depth behind him. The Wildcats will be looking to replace senior Nick Foles, himself a transfer, following this season, and appear to be stockpiling potential candidates.

Who knows, maybe the younger Gabbert will find a new home and become a star. While not as highly touted as his brother, he has to have some skill if he was signed to play at Missouri.
