ASU plans to keep facing difficult non-conference competition

PHOENIX – The Arizona State Sun Devils are primed for their school’s biggest non-conference game in quite some time on Friday when they face the Missouri Tigers in front of a nationally televised audience.

ASU Athletic Director Lisa Love plans to have ASU playing in these kind of high profile games in the future as well.

“We are not shying away from risk or competitive responsibility. We have no intention of hiding behind a saguaro and not playing people,” said Lisa Love on the Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf show on Tuesday.

Love is trying to change the culture at ASU with higher expectations being placed on the program.

“We’re seeking a sustained competitive standard that is excellent on any occasional year and highly competitive on all other years and no longer taking a second citizen approach to what this university can deliver,” said Love.

A big win over Missouri on Friday would go a long way towards making believers of the ASU program, but Love just sees this game as a stepping stone.

“Our goal is to play at BCS championship level football program that doesn’t disappear after a great performance,” said Love.
