ASU lineman Garth Gerhart ‘questionable’ vs. Utah

Oct 4, 2011, 2:20 AM | Updated: 6:48 pm

He’s the most experienced player on the Arizona State
offensive line. Senior center Garth Gerhart made his 27th
start last Saturday night. His 28th start is up in the
air.

“He’s questionable,” stated head coach Dennis Erickson
Monday.

Gerhart hurt his left ankle in the first quarter against
Oregon State and did not return.

“Obviously, he was pretty sore yesterday when I last saw
him,” Erickson said. “He’ll get treatment. There’s a
possibility that he might play.”

If Gerhart is unable to go this week at Utah, then
sophomore backup Kody Koebensky will get the nod.

Koebensky, who played at Scottsdale Saguaro High School,
did “a commendable job” Saturday filling in for Gerhart
according to Erickson.

“You come into a PAC-12 football game and you’re the
backup center, there couldn’t be anything worse.”

He then added, “That position is the hardest position to
play in football. To me, it’s almost like losing a
quarterback. That’s how important that position is
because it starts every play.”
