Mora raiding ASU staff?

Dec 13, 2011, 11:05 PM | Updated: 11:17 pm

Jim L. Mora was formally introduced as the new head coach
at UCLA on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the first tasks Mora will be faced with is putting
together a staff, and he’s reportedly looking to the East
to start the ball rolling.

Chris Foster of the Los Angeles
Times tweeted on Tuesday
that ASU receivers coach and
recruiting coordinator Steve Broussard is on his way to
join Mora’s staff
according to “a person in the UCLA program”.

This would be a major blow to the Arizona State program as
Broussard is largely responsible for an impressive 2012
recruiting class. One could assume that members of that
class, who gave commitments before Dennis Erickson was
fired, could wiggle out of their ASU commitments and
follow Broussard to L.A.

There have also been rumors that ASU offensive coordinator
Noel Mazzone has been targeted by Mora to perform the
same job for the Bruins.

Meanwhile, Arizona State doesn’t appear to be any closer
to hiring a coach, although a few names have surfaced as
“candidates” in the last 24 hours. Mark Whipple, who is
currently the quarterbacks coach of the Cleveland Browns,
had his name show up prominently in internet rumors on
Tuesday as a target for ASU.

St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and
former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley have also
been bandied about without confirmation of ASU’s interest.
