Larry Scott: Pac-12 supports four-team playoff

May 8, 2012, 10:18 PM | Updated: 11:34 pm

There has been a lot of scuttlebutt from a lot of
different people about the adoption of a playoff system to
determine a national champion in college football.

Last month, BCS spokesperson Bill Hancock said that any
proposals for an eight-team or sixteen-team playoff would
“diminish the regular season and harm the bowls.”

So, any proposal moving forward will likely be a four-team
setup.

The Pac-12 (Pac-10) Conference has long been considered a
very buttoned-down traditional outfit resistant to change.
That image has been transformed under commissioner Larry
Scott, who took over for Tom Hanson in July of 2009. The
commissioner joined Burns & Gambo on Arizona Sports 620
Tuesday to discuss the conference’s feelings toward
adopting a new BCS Playoff system.

“We’ve evolved our position,” Scott said.
“We’ve tried to
be progressive while at the same time preserving the
things that are important to us — the Rose Bowl is
something very important to us.
