ESPN’s May: ASU discipline will be tested on the road

Sep 11, 2012, 8:43 PM | Updated: 9:52 pm

Todd Graham’s Arizona State football team is 2-0, and while they’ve easily won their first two games, it’s a lack of penalties that seems to be garnering much of the attention.

To wit: The Sun Devils have been penalized for just 35 yards total in two games after averaging nearly 80 yards per game last season.

ESPN NCAA analyst Mark May, though, cautions that ASU’s new-found discipline will be tested soon.

“Time will tell,” he said. “It’s not really like they’ve played a tough schedule so far, so we’re going to find out soon enough how good they really are, how disciplined they are.”

May said you learn more about a team and its discipline when it faces adversity, which the Sun Devils have yet to do in 2012. Still, they could not have asked for a better start.

“I like what Arizona State’s done this year, they’re exciting,” May said.
