Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a football game. So, we will give you a fork report, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from ASU’s September 15 loss to Missouri. Final score: Missouri 24, Arizona State 20.
The Good:
Junior college transfer Marion Grice scored two fourth quarter touchdowns as the Sun Devils attempted to rally from a 17-point deficit. They were the fourth and fifth rushing scores of the season for Grice, who leads ASU in scoring.
The Bad:
Following Grice’s second touchdown, back-up quarterback Ryan Woods mishandled the snap on the extra point attempt, making the score 24-20. It was one of several mistakes on special teams. The Sun Devils also lost the turnover battle. Quarterback Taylor Kelly was intercepted twice. He fumbled as well, as did Jamal Miles on a punt return. In addition, the Sun Devils were only 2-for-12 on 3rd down.
He Said It:
“I think our guys showed great character coming back,” head coach Todd Graham said. “[But] you can’t turn the ball over that many times. We beat ourselves. That’s what’s sad.”
Noted:
Kelly at one point completed 13 straight passes for 155 yards and a touchdown.
Coming Up Next:
The Sun Devils host Utah on Saturday, September 22. It’s the Pac-12 opener for both schools. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. and will be televised by the Pac-12 Network.
