The Arizona State Sun Devils were dealt a hefty blow in the first quarter of Thursday’s 43-21 loss to the Oregon Ducks.
Defensive tackle Will Sutton left the game with a right knee injury after getting hurt on a play where he forced an Oregon fumble on the second play of the game.
Sutton did not return and was on the sidelines on crutches. The severity of the injury is not yet known.
“When we lost Will, I just personally, myself, so much of our gameplan is around him,” ASU coach Todd Graham said after the game. “That’s not an excuse, but we were scrambling and they did a great job of capitalizing on that.”
The Ducks finished the game with 454 yards of total offense — 406 of which came on the ground. Many of their runs were up the middle where Sutton would have normally been.
“You’re not going to replace a guy that’s that good,” Graham said. “You have to move on and make some adjustments.”
Sutton was ranked fourth in the country in sacks and leads the Pac-12 in tackles for loss.
