Bruce Arians to appear on HBO show Tuesday

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians doesn’t open up a whole lot about how his tenure ended with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On Tuesday night, fans will get a chance to hear exactly what happened, as Arians is set to be featured on HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.”
In the two-minute promotional video, Arians said he talked to head coach Mike Tomlin and was told, “I’ll get you your bread.”
Arians said that he got a call later from Tomlin, who had apparently changed his mind and couldn’t get him a new contract.
“I walked upstairs and told my wife, and I’d never seen her cry, and she cried,” Arians said.
He goes on to say that he thinks it was his style of offense that ultimately cost him his job, and that he thought his coaching career was over. At least, that was before Chuck Pagano from the Indianapolis Colts called.
Arians spent eight years with the Steelers as a wide receivers coach and then the offensive coordinator. He helped the Steelers get to three Super Bowls, winning two of them, but his contract wasn’t renewed after 2011.
He then went on to become the offensive coordinator coach for the Colts for a year, also serving as interim head coach as Pagano missed some games because of cancer. Arians then left to become the head coach of the Cardinals in 2013.
Arians’ wife, Christine, also was interviewed for the piece by Andrea Kremer. Much like her famously outspoken husband, she didn’t hold back.
“I had admired Mike Tomlin so much and I really thought he was a coach who really cared about his people,” Mrs. Arians said. “Well, I felt really disillusioned.”
