Cardinals rookie Harlan Miller stays humble, looks for consistency

With the Arizona Cardinals about a month away from training camp, rookie defensive back Harlan Miller is working to maintain the momentum he’s gained since his rookie mini-camp showing.
A guest of Bickley and Marotta on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Wednesday, Miller discussed what he needs to do to stay ready this offseason.
“You still got to take care of what you need to take care of as for learning the playbook, staying in shape and getting ready for for training camp,” Miller said.
The sixth-round pick was a third-team Associated Press All-American and was first-team All-Southland conference in 2014 for the Southeastern Louisiana University Lions.
In 47 games played in college, Miller totaled 122 tackles and had 11 interceptions — including one he returned for a touchdown.
Miller did not take long to show the Cardinals why they drafted him, as he intercepted a pair of passes during the team’s rookie mini-camp.
Even with his early success, Miller understands that he can’t sit back and think he’s done working.
“You got to stay humble,” Miller said. “You get two picks, that’s good, but you got to be consistent with it.”
Miller knows there’s a starting spot up for grabs for him and third-rounder Brandon Williams with Jerraud Powers leaving to Baltimore and Justin Bethel being hurt, but he’s focused on doing whatever needs to be done for Arizona.
“You got to do the little things first to get the job and playing special teams is my first priority,” Miller said.
Miller said he brings a lot of energy to the field and knowing to be at the right place at the right time, but understands his ability to grasp the Cardinals’ system will be key to his future.
“I have a knack for learning new things,” Miller said. “Once you put it all together it becomes very easy and you just keep going over it and over it and after a while it becomes second nature.”
