Arizona State is moving forward with its renovations of Sun Devil Stadium. The university announced Thursday it has hired both a construction and design team to oversee and execute the planned enhancements.

Hunt Construction and Sundt Construction, Inc. and the the HNTB Corporation have been hired as the construction and design teams respectively.

“We have reached an important milestone in the reinvention of Sun Devil Stadium,” said Ray Anderson, Vice President for University Athletics. “While preliminary conceptual work has been done for purposes of planning and programming considerations, today’s announcement means we are shifting gears and that the vision starts being transformed into concrete plans.”

The ASU Athletics department released renderings of the Sun Devil Stadium updates earlier this year. The plans include a bigger student section, more restrooms and an enhanced video board and sound system.

“This is a very important decision and one where experience and a proven track record are critical elements,” Anderson said. “We have complete confidence that the team of Hunt and Sundt will deliver on time and on budget, and that our student-athletes, fans, and the entire community will enjoy a top-tier facility.”

This past spring, the university removed approximately 5,700 seats from the upper north end zone as part of the preliminary stages of the project. The ASU football team will continue to play its regular season games at the stadium while the construction takes place. The entire renovation is expected to be completed by 2017.
