The Baltimore Ravens’ Elvis Dumervil is trading in knocking people to the ground for aiding New Story Charity in building homes from the ground up in Haiti, according to the Baltimore Ravens website.

The linebacker has put a lot of money into helping Haiti rebuild since a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake rocked the country in 2010 and left many Haitians homeless.

On Jan. 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake ravaged Haiti’s capital city of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas. It killed 320,000 and left two million people homeless.

Dumervil is funding the construction of 58 homes; 58 is his jersey number.

However, he doesn’t want to just write a check, he’s wants to be there to witness the building efforts for himself.

Dumervil is accompanying New Story Charity this weekend to survey the progress of his rebuilding project and see the first few families move from the slums into their newly built houses in Bercy, Haiti.

Dumervil’s parents were born in Haiti before coming to America where Dumervil was born.

Even though Dumervil is headlining the efforts, he’s not the only NFL player helping out with the rebuild.

With more than 50 current Haitian NFL players, Dumervil plans to build an entire community in Haiti with the help of his fellow stars. The list of players includes Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril, Bengals running back Giovani Bernard, Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon and Ravens teammate Vladimir Ducasse.
