Friday night Diana Taurasi became one of three players in WNBA history to reach 7,000 career points, and is the fastest to reach the historic mark.
Taurasi reached the milestone during a 91-79 win over the Washington Mystics. She did so in a flashy manner, hitting a three-pointer from 30 feet with 1:09 left in the third quarter. She had 27 points on the night.
The 12-year-pro reached 7,000 in only 348 career games, getting there in 80 games less than the previous quickest Tamika Catchings. Tina Thompson is the other player to have over 7,000 career points.
Taurasi is now 482 points away from catching Thompson and becoming No. 2 on the all-time scoring chart. She is projected to pass Thompson early in 2017.
Her remarkable pace in reaching the number can’t even be matched by current WNBA stars Maya Moore and Elena Delle Doone. Moore is on pace to get to 7,000 in 379 games while Delle Donne would be three games shy of Taurasi at 351 games.
