His team may be coming off of a tough loss, but Arizona State quarterback Taylor Kelly just earned a pretty big win for himself.

Kelly was named the 2014 football Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday, given to the conference player that stands out in the classroom and on the field. The redshirt Senior graduated from Arizona State with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education studies in May and is currently enrolled in the Master’s of Legal Studies program at the school.

Kelly is currently in his third season as the Sun Devils’ starting quarterback, passing for 20 touchdowns and 1,874 yards and gaining 232 yards and three scores on the ground. The quarterback has already made a permanent mark in his years at Arizona State, ranking third in school history with 77 touchdown passes and first with an average of 262.1 yards of total offense per game.

Making an impact off the field, Kelly is heavily involved with ASU’s Scholar Baller leadership and outreach program and was named a Scholar Baller at the school six times, an award for student athletes who achieve a 3.0 GPA during a semester.

The Pac-12 is currently in the eighth year of awarding the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, one for each of 22 sponsored sports within the conference. Kelly is the second Sun Devil football player to win the award, joining former linebacker Mike Nixon who won during the 2009-10 season.
