The Arizona State Sun Devils came short of their goal of advancing to the first-ever College Football Playoff — but according to one measurement, they’re among the best of the best in the classroom.
New America, a non-profit public policy institute, ranked ASU No. 5 among this year’s CFP top 25 schools in its Academic Football Playoff Series 2014.
The rankings were largely based on each school’s graduation success rate, including the difference between the school’s overall graduation rate and the graduation rate of its football players.
ASU was the second-highest ranked Pac-12 school, as UCLA was ranked No. 2 overall. Two other Pac-12 schools — Utah (No. 8) and Arizona (No. 9) — cracked the top 10.
USC was ranked last among all CFP top 25 schools.
