Arizona Cardinals’ 17-10 win over Seattle Seahawks: By the numbers

Dec 23, 2013, 12:41 AM | Updated: 5:56 pm

The Arizona Cardinals pulled off the near impossible, becoming the first team to win in Seattle in 728 days dating back to Dec. 2011. With the win, Arizona kept its playoff hopes alive and claimed its first 10-win season since 2009.

Here’s a look back at the 17-10 win by the numbers:

0:

Despite a turnover-prone first half, Arizona didn’t allow a touchdown to Seattle in two red zone trips. One of those trips began at the Cardinals’ three-yard line, but two runs and an incompletion couldn’t get the Seahawks into the end zone. Steven Hauschka eventually missed on a 24-yard field goal attempt.

1:

Michael Floyd had one catch Sunday — it just so happens that it was the biggest of the game. Trailing 10-9 late in the fourth quarter, Floyd hauled in a 31-yard touchdown to put Arizona up for good. With the touchdown, Floyd extended his catches for first downs streak to 25.

2:

In a 34-22 loss to the Seahawks back in Week 7, the Cardinals’ offensive line allowed seven sacks. Sunday, they gave up only two for a total of 10 yards.

3:

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who wears No. 3, had been a perfect 14-0 at CenturyLink Field in his career. That streak came to an end in the 17-10 loss.

4:

Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer tied a career-high Sunday with four interceptions, including two in the red zone. Palmer has thrown two or more interceptions in seven of 15 games this season.

7:

Before Jay Feely’s second quarter field goal from 39 yards out, the Cardinals had gone seven straight quarters dating back to Sept. 25, 2011 without scoring a point in Seattle.

8:

The Seahawks briefly pulled ahead in the fourth quarter thanks to a boneheaded played by cornerback Patrick Peterson. After Russell Wilson connected on a 28-yard pass to Golden Tate, the former Notre Dame standout fumbled the ball forward.

Peterson, who was downfield covering Jermaine Kearse, never looked back for the football. Kearse promptly picked the ball up at the Arizona 21-yard line for an eight-yard game. Seattle scored three plays later on an 11-yard touchdown pass.

8:21

Arizona got on the board in the board in the second quarter thanks to a 16-play, 75-yard drive. The drive lasted a season-high eight minutes and 21 seconds.

10:

Todd Bowles’ unit became the first to hold the Seahawks to 10 points or less in the 2013 campaign.

15.4:

How good were the Cardinals defensively Sunday? Heading into the game, the Seahawks ranked No. 11 in the NFL in third down efficiency — converting 39.3 percent of the time. Against Arizona, Seattle converted on just 2-of-13 attempts good for 15.4 percent.

16:

Zach Miller’s 11-yard touchdown grab was the 16th the Cardinals have allowed to a tight end in 2013.

40.7

In addition to suffering his first loss at home, Wilson had arguably the worst statistical game in his two-year career. The former third-round pick completed a career-low 40.7 percent of his passes for a career-low 108 yards.

49:

Arizona gave up just 49 total yards of offense to Seattle in the second and third quarters.

71:

Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was held to just 71 yards on the ground. It’s the fewest yards he’s accumulate against Arizona since Nov. 14, 2010 when he 29 on 13 carries.

2009:

Not only did the Cardinals put an end to the Seahawks’ impressive home streak, they also put an end to their futile streak in the Emerald City. Sunday’s victory was their first in Seattle since a 27-3 rout back on Oct. 18, 2009.
