Look, nobody was about to beat Giancarlo Stanton in the 2016 Home Run Derby. The guy was mashing bombs nearly 500 feet long.

So Padres first baseman Wil Myers getting plunked by his pitcher, his little brother Beau, didn’t matter any which way. But it happened, and it happened pretty early in the first-round matchup when the San Diego star was still very much in it.

Myers would flounder down the stretch, missing on homers on all but five of his final 18 swings in his turn. Adam Duvall ended up winning 11-10 to advance, and it’s pretty unfortunate Myers probably got a little mentally unstable following being hit by the pitch.

We wonder if there was any conspiracy involved.

That’s because Beau Myers is apparently the annoying little brother, and because The San Diego Tribune’s Jeff Sanders specifically questioned Beau about whether Wil had made a mistake asking somebody with revenge on their mind to pitch to him in the derby.

Q: On Monday, you’ll be throwing to your brother in front of more than 40,000 fans and millions of viewers. Is there anything that you might owe him payback for that might have slipped his mind before he extended the invite?

A: (Laughs) Oh, there’s nothing I have against him. Everything he’s ever done for me has been great, so I have no problems with him.

Q: Are you sure? Because he said on Thursday that when he was 18 and 12 that you were the “annoying little brother.”

A: Oh, no doubt. I know I was. All I wanted to do was get my older brother in trouble. But I’ve matured a lot and our relationship is as good as ever.

If indeed the plunking was purposeful, props to Beau for having the guts to pull off such a prank in front of a huge audience. He got his big bro good.
