You might remember the NFC Divisional Round game between the Cardinals and Packers that around these parts had us labeling it as one of the best games, ever.
Voters in the 2016 ESPY Awards apparently didn’t agree with that assessment.
In the biggest sports award show Wednesday night, the Cardinals’ 26-20 victory against the Packers in January wasn’t up to snuff next to Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The battle between the Cavaliers and Warriors took home the 2016 ESPY for best game.
Also in the mix was Villanova’s buzzer-beater against the North Carolina Tar Heels in the NCAA Championship game.
While that one had the better ending and the Cavaliers-Warriors matchup certainly built in excitement over the course of a seven-game series, the Cardinals’ overtime win certainly held its own despite falling short in the voting.
Carson Palmer hitting Michael Floyd with a tipped touchdown pass, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers throwing his second Hail Mary of the season, a botched coin toss to start overtime, and Larry Fitzgerald going vintage Fitz all over the Cheeseheads in the overtime period certainly warrants mention in our eyes.
