Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale was scheduled to start Saturday against the Detroit Tigers until he was scratched from his start.
At first, the baseball world thought the pitcher, who’s name has been circulated in possible trades had been dealt.
However, it wasn’t a trade for the reason for him being scratched from his start, instead, it was his refusal to wear the throwback jersey the White Sox were scheduled to wear that night.
Not a joke: Source says Sale blowup was because he didn't want to wear throwbacks, so he cut the jerseys up so no one could wear them.

Second source confirms throwbacks as source of Sale incident. He did not want to wear them, deal with discomfort during game.

Sources say: Sale cut up throwbacks during batting practice. Upset that, in his view, PR and jersey sales were more important than winning.

And that’s when the baseball world started having fun with this story.

Chris Sale would probably cut up these 25 NBA throwbacks too https://t.co/usOeDwQ4SO pic.twitter.com/IjNnOcG3DM

And if that wasn’t enough, apparently Sale’s outburst also upset the baseball gods and other gods.
Torrential downpour here at the Cell proves Chris Sale has angered the throwback gods.

News of Sales refusal to wear the throwbacks even reached the pressbox of Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark where some thought the Diamondbacks’ could be in line for the pitcher.
Overheard in the press box: "Maybe they should trade him to the Diamondbacks." https://t.co/iL9kSaeiBF
