The Phoenix Suns announced their full coaching staff for the 2016-17 season on Wednesday.
Under Suns’ head coach Earl Watson will be associate head coach Jay Triano, assistant coaches Tyrone Corbin and Nate Bjorkgren, assistant coach/player development coordinator Marlon Garnett, and player development coaches Scott Duncan and Jason Fraser.
New to the Suns this season are Triano, Corbin, Garnett and Duncan.
“As a family we are excited with the additions we have made into our program,” said Watson. “Each coach possesses a unique passion to teach, and the chemistry of our staff is as important as the structure of our roster. We are very lucky to have this creative group assembled.”
Triano was an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers the last four seasons, and was actually a coach for Watson during his final season as a player in 2013-14.
Triano brings great experience to the Suns’ coaching staff as he was the head coach of the Toronto Raptors from 2008-11, and currently serves as the head coach for Canada’s national team.
The Suns are also bringing in another former NBA head coach to the staff, as Corbin was the lead man for parts of five seasons for the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings.
Corbin once played for the Suns, as he appeared in 107 games for Phoenix from 1987-89, where he averaged 8.1 points per game.
Garnett joins the team after most recently working in video and player development for the San Antonio Spurs, while Duncan comes over from the University of Wyoming, where he was associate head coach for six seasons.
