The Arizona Coyotes locked up one of their young players on Thursday as defenseman Connor Murphy signed a six-year contract with the team.
Per club policy, financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, but Arizona Sports’ Craig Morgan reported the deal averages out to $3.85 million per season.
Murphy, 23, notched six goals, 11 assists and 48 PIMs last season. His plus-five was tied for third on the team.
“We are extremely pleased to sign Connor to a long-term contract,” Coyotes GM John Chayka said in a press release. “At only 23, Connor has established himself as a very good NHL defenseman. He’s a great skater, a fierce competitor and he has an excellent work ethic. We look forward to him taking the next step and having him on our blue line for many years to come.”
Murphy was originally selected 20th overall by the Coyotes in the 2011 NHL Draft. In 181 career NHL games, he has scored 11 goals and tallied 32 points.
