Sendek calls player transfers ‘an epidemic in college sports’

Jan 10, 2012, 11:05 PM | Updated: 11:23 pm

Kyle Cain and Chris Colvin returned to Arizona State’s
basketball practice Monday and will be available this week
vs. the Oregon schools. The two, along with Keala King,
were suspended last week, did not make the trip to L.A.
and
missed the games against USC and UCLA.

King has since been dismissed from the team. “In the
final
analysis it just seemed to me it made great sense for our
program and for Keala that he have a new beginning,”
Sendek
said Tuesday.

Sendek has seen eight players transfer since arriving at
ASU
for what he believes “almost to a man [has] been because
of
playing time”, adding that is is “an epidemic in college
sports that really reflects what’s happening in our
society.”

The eight players that have transferred on Sendek’s watch
are Johnny Coy (baseball at Wichita State), Brandon Dunson
(Azusa Pacific), Corey Hawkins (UC Davis), Taylor Rohde
(Alaska-Anchorage), Victor Rudd (South Florida), Brandon
Thompson (Long Island), Demetrius Walker (New Mexico) and
Kraidon Woods (Drake).

Sendek though did admit that, “We’re not batting a high
enough percentage in some of our personnel decisions.”
