ASU tromps Oregon State for third Pac-12 win: By the Numbers

...

Dealt a deflating loss while at Stanford over the weekend, Arizona State looked much more comfortable at home Wednesday while hosting Oregon State.

Coach Herb Sendek’s squad grabbed a lead just moments into the game and they never let it slip from their grip the rest of the way, winning 73-55, thanks to a strong shooting performance and limited fouling.

Shaq McKissic led the way for the Sun Devils, scoring 17 on 5-of-10 shooting while going 7-for-7 from the line.

But it looked to be the Devils’ three-point shooting which made the difference, as Jonathan Gilling, Bo Barnes and company knocked down nine threes to outdo the Beavers’ two.

After starting Pac-12 play off with five of seven contests on the road, ASU’s win Wednesday kicked off a three-game home stretch, with five of their current seven being played in Tempe.

Here’s a look at that win, by the numbers:

3

Oregon State managed to hit just three of their eight free throw attempts on the night, rarely finding the line, thanks to mid-air discipline by ASU.

3:36

After three minutes and 36 seconds into the game, when the score was 7-7, the Sun Devils never trailed, leading by double digits for much of the final 30 minutes of the game.

7

Unlike the Beavers, McKissic was very effective in getting to the free-throw line and, once he got there, hitting his shots. McKissic entered the game a career 63 percent free-throw shooter.

9

The Sun Devils hit nine three-pointers, including five in a row, to help give them an early cushion, which saw them head to the locker room at halftime with a 40-23 lead in hand.

22

ASU led by as many as 22 at one point and that was with 2:49 left in the game, when they held a 71-49 advantage.

35

Eric Jacobsen helped ASU dominate the boards, outrebounding the visiting Beavers 35-22.
