The Arizona Cardinals released long snapper Kameron Canaday and safety Marqui Christian on Tuesday, while elevating tight end Ifeanyi Momah from the practice squad and placing tight end Troy Niklas on injured reserve.
In addition, the team signed linebacker Cam Johnson to the practice squad and released linebacker Shaq Riddick from the practice squad.
The moves come in the wake of Arizona’s 33-18 road loss to the Buffalo Bills, a game in which an errant Canaday snap on a field goal attempt led to a Bills’ touchdown and Niklas later suffered a wrist injury.
Canaday had won a preseason battle to replace long-time long snapper Mike Leach, but struggled in his first three NFL games. A fifth-round pick in the 2016 draft, Christian was inactive for all three games.
Niklas appeared in all three games, catching one of two passes thrown his way. He has struggled with injuries since being chosen in the second round of the 2014 draft out of Notre Dame.
Johnson was seventh-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2012 draft out of Virginia. He has appeared in 16 games over four seasons with the 49ers, Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns.
