GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Coyotes shaved 17 players from their roster on Sunday, sending 15 players to their American Hockey League affiliate in Tucson, while sending right wing Nick Merkley back to juniors with Kelowna of the Western Hockey League, and releasing Zach Boychuk from his professional tryout contract.
The camp roster stands at 32 players if you include unsigned restricted free agent Tobias Rieder, as the Coyotes do on their website. It also includes suspended defenseman Jarred Tinordi (substance abuse). The Coyotes must reduce their roster to 23 players by Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. Arizona time.
The players assigned to the AHL were: goalie Adin Hill and Marek Langhamer; defensemen Justin Hache, Kyle Wood, Dysin Mayo; forwards Garret Ross, Eric Selleck, Henrik Samuelsson, Conor Garland, Craig Cunningham, Brendan Perlini, Michael Bunting; and centers Chris Mueller, Ryan MacInnis and Tyler Gaudet.
Perlini was the most surprising of the players who did not make it to the final round of cuts, but the 2014 first-round pick had a rough season with Niagara of the OHL and the Coyotes staff has said previously that they want him to work with the AHL and development staffs to get his game back in shape.
Gaudet has fallen behind Laurent Dauphin in the push for a bottom-six roster spot at center.

The Coyotes flew to Vancouver on Sunday and will face the Canucks on Monday and the Calgary Flames in Calgary on Wednesday in preseason games. They play San Jose on Friday at Gila River Arena in their final preseason game.
