The Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League are, in honor of Wildlife Week, planning on wearing jerseys that honor Harambe.
According to the team’s website, the jerseys will be auctioned off during their Oct.19 game against the Burlington Cougars, with the proceeds from that as well as t-shirt sales going to benefit the Jane Goodall Institude of Canada.
“We felt #HockeyForHarambe was the best way to honour Harambe’s life and also bring awareness to the plight of the Lowland Gorilla” stated Rob McDonald, Director of Game Day Operations for the Trenton Golden Hawks.
The Golden Hawks are not not alone in honoring Harambe, the Western lowland gorilla who was killed after a child fell into his enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo in May.
On Thursday, Washington Nationals’ star Bryce Harper remembered Harambe with a decal on the knob of his bat that read “RIP.”
