Stromin’ in hot: Coyotes prospect Dylan Strome will make NHL debut Tuesday

After waiting a year since being drafted, Arizona Coyotes prospect Dylan Strome will make his National Hockey League debut on Tuesday.

“I’ve been waiting for this for a while now and I’m excited for it,” Strome told the team’s website. “I’m just going to go out there any play my game and try to stay in the lineup.”

Strome was a healthy scratch for Saturday’s season-opening overtime win over Philadelphia, but coach Dave Tippett promised he would get an opportunity soon.

He will replace another prospect, Christian Dvorak, in the lineup Tuesday. Tippett said prior to the season beginning that Strome and Dvorak might trade off when it comes to playing time.

The 19-year-old said his parents will attend the game. It will be the first time they see their son play in the NHL.

Strome was selected third overall by the Coyotes in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He spent the past three seasons with the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League, where he scored 92 goals and contributed an additional 187 assists for a total of 279 points. He also logged 87 minutes in the penalty box.

Defenseman Kevin Connauton is also expected in the lineup after coming off the injured non-roster list on Tuesday. He will replace Jakob Chychrun.

The Coyotes take on the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. The puck will drop at 4:30 p.m. Arizona time and the game can be heard on ESPN 620 AM Phoenix.
