Arizona Coyotes goalie Mike Smith left with an apparent left leg injury during his team’s 7-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.
Smith was injured when he attempted to lunge from the left to the right side of the goal while attempting to make a save. In doing so, the goalie awkwardly twisted his left leg, which got caught under him. He immediately flung off his left glove and grabbed at his leg before leaving the ice without putting pressure on the leg.
We’ll re-evaluate (Wednesday), but it’s too early to get any diagnosis yet. We’ll just do our due diligence and find out what it is,” Coyotes coach Dave Tippett told the Associated Press.

Coach Dave Tippett told the media in Ottawa it was too early for a diagnosis of Smith’s injury.
The Coyotes trailed 3-2 with just more than seven minutes into the third period.
Backup goalie Louis Domingue replaced Smith in goal but allowed two goals within a minute of the starter’s injury. He allowed one more before Ottawa scored an empty-netter.
Smith finished the second game of the Coyotes’ season with 27 saves.
Last year, Smith played in only 32 games due to a core muscle injury.
