A lot of people — players, coaches, fans, media members — didn’t really know how to process the Arizona Cardinals’ 6-6 tie with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football.

In the same way, many responsible for creating NFL Power Rankings were perplexed by the outcome of a 75-minute game during which the Arizona’s defense stifled Seattle and their offense dominated without scoring points — if that’s such a thing.

So many of the Week 8 Power Rankings have the Birdgang climbing the ladder, while others treat the tie like a loss (it did feel that way) and lowered Bruce Arians’ teams in their respective pecking orders.

Here’s a rundown of what some prominent national outlets (and ArizonaSports.com) are saying about the Cardinals:

CardinalsHelmet

Cardinals Average Power Ranking: 11.6

(up from 12.7 last week)

High Ranking: #7 (ESPN.com)

Low Ranking: #17 (Pro Football Talk)

Did so many things well. Two missed field goals away from 5-2.

Cardinals rank: #7 (▲ 6)

The good news is the Cardinals haven’t lost games and haven’t committed a turnover in each of their past three games. But it could be tough to feel good after that Week 7 tie with Seattle. Arizona looks to get revenge on the Panthers in Carolina this week.

Cardinals rank: #8 (–)

A crazy Sunday night in Arizona halted the Cardinals’ winning streak, and frankly, the tie makes the NFC West standings a jumbled mess. It also means the Christmas Eve meeting in Seattle will be a must-win if this group is to earn a home playoff game. Loved the slugfest and how hard both defenses fought on an evening that points were hard to come by. That said, I am genuinely worried David Johnson’s legs are going to fall off around Week 14.

Cardinals rank: #15 (▼ 3)

Among the reasons Arizona needed Chandler Catanzaro to hit his game-winning 24-yard FG attempt Monday (the chief reason being that an NFL kicker should be able to make a kick from that distance while blindfolded and running backwards) is that the Cardinals already have played five home games. That’s the most of any team to date. And with the tie, they’re just 2–2–1 on their turf.

Cardinals rank: #12 (▲ 4)

That tie against Seattle had to feel like a loss. Now they face a long trip to Carolina, where they were awful in the NFC Championship Game last January.

Cardinals rank: #13 (▲ 5)

Head coach Bruce Arians enters every game thinking his team can put up 30 points.

Perhaps that was his team’s undoing. Long before Chandler Catanzaro missed a gimme field goal, Arizona was deadlocked in a field-goal fest. Arians didn’t realize it until it was too late.

Arians’ decision-making worked against Catanzaro all night. You center the ball before a big field goal for a reason. You don’t take delay-of-game penalties before a kick for a reason, too. Neither would’ve been necessary if David Johnson dived at the goal line.

Arians’ scheme has been a blessing and a curse for the Cardinals during his tenure. You can guess which side won out on Sunday Night Football.

Cardinals rank: #11 (▲ 1)

David Johnson is fantastic, but in the past three games he is averaging 32 touches a game. Arizona can’t afford to dig a deeper hole this season, but that’s a hard pace for Johnson to keep up.

Bruce Arians hasn’t pulled any punches on his kicking game. Of course, if it had executed, Cards could easily be 5-2 right now.

FoxsportsNFL Week 8 power rankings: Who takes Minnesota’s spot at No. 1?

Cardinals rank: #11 (▼ 1)

The Cardinals have to feel as though their tie with the Seahawks was actually a loss. Playing at home against a division foe that you outgained handily on offense yet you failed to move to within a half-game in the NFC West. At least David Johnson has become the focal point over Carson Palmer.

They get a chance to exorcise their lingering 2015 demons with a trip back to Charlotte. And if the Cardinals lose this one, it could be over.
