On Friday, Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro was the first to report that the Arizona Diamondbacks were going to name Boston Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo as their next manager, a move the team made official later that day.

The D-backs have been receiving a healthy amount of praise for the decision to tab the 51-year-old who spent the last four seasons with the Red Sox as bench coach under manager John Farrell.

Former players Alex Cora and Phil Nevin were also reportedly interviewed for the job. Nevin is reportedly joining Bruce Bochy’s coaching staff in San Francisco after losing out on the position to Lovullo.

In 2015, Lovullo stepped in as the interim manager of the Red Sox, guiding the team to a 28-21 record. He played for seven different MLB teams from 1988-1999 before moving into coaching in 2011 for the Toronto Blue Jays.
