Arizona Wildcats coach Rich Rodriguez announced during his weekly press conference on Monday that he doesn’t see “any foreseeable comeback” for running back Nick Wilson.
Wilson, who suffered an ankle and more recently a knee injury, has only played five games and tallied 320 yards and three touchdowns on 55 carries. This season, the only games he had at least 10 carries were against BYU and Grambling State, the first two outings of the year.
He injured his knee on Oct. 15 against USC.
The Wildcats replaced Wilson with freshman J.J. Taylor, who rushed for 261 yards and a 6.9 average mostly against Hawaii and Washington before he broke his leg and was ruled out for the year. Fellow backup Orlando Bradford was kicked off the team following an assault charge, while receiver Tyrell Johnson struggled with fumbles once he was converted to running back.
The last two games, senior wide receiver Samajie Grant has started at running back and accumulated 131 yards on 27 carries.
