Reason for optimism with Adrian Wilson

Aug 9, 2011, 4:53 PM | Updated: 6:14 pm

It was originally feared that Adrian Wilson’s biceps injury would force him to miss the entire 2011 season.

Deciding to forego surgery, Wilson told teammates he’d play in Week 1 while his head coach, not confident in the Week 1 prediction, thinks his Pro-Bowler will return at some point this year.

So does Sports 620 KTAR’s Ron Wolfley, especially after seeing Wilson’s demeanor Monday.

“It’s great news to me that Adrian Wilson was even joking around right there, that he was smiling, that he actually allowed himself to laugh,” Wolfley said, referring to an interview Wilson gave after practice. “You could just see he was elated, for whatever reason, he was filled with hope, and that gives me hope.”

You’d think a person who thought he might miss an entire season would not be in a good mood, and for Wilson to share laughs with the media shows that maybe things are looking up for the time being.

A “warrior,” as Wolfley calls him, Wilson is usually all business, all the time, so for him to seem happy at a time when he’s injured?

“It’s a great sign to me that he’s going to be ready to play,” Wolfley said. “I don’t know if it’s going to be the Carolina game…that’s way too optimistic.

“But I don’t want to bet against him either.”
