The Arizona Cardinals released punter Drew Butler in early October because he had an injured calf. Now it seems he is good to go, as they announced Tuesday the team has re-signed him.

The Cardinals are bringing back Butler, who will return to continue his third season with the team, and have cut punter Ryan Quigley.

“We really like Drew because he also gives us a backup kickoff guy and a backup field goal kicker,” Arians said Tuesday during his interview on Sirius XM NFL radio.

When the Cardinals released Butler on Oct. 4, they reached an injury settlement and had to wait six weeks in order to bring him back. He averaged 40.3 yards per punt in the first three weeks of the season on 15 boots.

In his career with Arizona, Butler has punted 154 times, averaging 42.3 yards per kick.

Arizona is ranked dead last in the league at 40.9 yards per punt, falling just short of 10 yards per kick behind the best punting team in the league, the Indianapolis Colts, who are averaging 50.8 yards per boot.

Quigley was cut after playing in six games for the Cardinals, punting it 34 times at 41.6 yards per kick.
