Bills GM not ruling out Lee Evans trade

Aug 11, 2011, 7:02 PM | Updated: 8:13 pm

The Buffalo Bills aren’t planning on trading Lee Evans, but that doesn’t mean they won’t part with their receiver before the season begins.

According to the Inside the Bills Blog, Bills GM Buddy Nix told Sirius NFL Radio Thursday that while he would not comment on Evans, specifically, anybody could be moved for the right price.

“As a whole, we’re always looking to upgrade and create competition on our roster,” he said. “We’re all capable of being replaced, including me.”

Nix also said nothing has changed with Evans’ status, adding, “We’re counting on him,” but you have to believe something could happen here.

The Bills are not exactly what one would call a serious threat in the AFC East, and Evans’ contract ($3.275 million in 2011 and 2012 as well as a $1.5 million roster bonus) may make it prudent for the Bills to look for a trade partner.

That’s where the Cardinals come in.

Though they’ve said they are happy with their current group of receivers, the 30-year-old Evans would have to pique their interest.

Evans had a career-low 37 catches last season, but he averaged 15.6 yards per reception and is the kind of proven deep threat the Cardinals currently lack.

So, what it really comes down to is the Bills’ willingness to trade Evans and the Cardinals’ desire to add him.

It could be a match made in heaven. Or Buffalo.
