Former Cardinals QB Logan Thomas joins Lions practice squad as a tight end

Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Logan Thomas has resurfaced with the Detroit Lions’ practice squad, but he’s doing so attempting to play his way back into the NFL as a tight end, reports NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

The Cardinals cut their 2014 fourth-round draft pick before the 2015 season when Matt Barkley earned the third-string quarterback job behind Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton.
Thomas was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins, waived in June of 2016 and claimed off waivers again by the New York Giants. In New York, he bounced between the NFL team and its practice squad before he was finally released on Nov. 22.
He never threw a pass for any team other than Arizona.
Thomas’ career as an NFL quarterback ended with two games played and just one completion. He went 1-of-9 on passing attempts with his only success coming on an 81-yard completion to Andre Ellington for a touchdown in Week 5 of his rookie season against the Denver Broncos.
The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Thomas was recruited to Virginia Tech as an athlete and the 103rd-best recruit in his 2009 high school class, according to ESPN. His scouting profile on ESPN said he could play wide receiver, H-back, linebacker or even defensive end due to his size and speed.
Has a long, smooth stride and very good speed for his size, but builds as he goes. Returns kicks, which is rare for a player who stands 6-foot-6. Shows some elusiveness and deceptive quickness and speed. Lacks ideal quick-twitch athleticism, but he’s very difficult to bring down, especially after he builds momentum.
After a four-year career with the Hokies where he developed into a starting quarterback, Thomas became the sixth signal-caller taken in the 2014 draft behind Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Derek Carr and Jimmy Garoppolo.
