Florida State debuts turquoise Native American heritage jerseys
If you see a college basketball team rocking turquoise instead of its usual color schemes this month, here’s why.
Nine Nike men’s and women’s teams across the nation have and will be wearing the jersey-shorts combinations as part of Native American Heritage Month this November, and on Monday, it was the Florida State Seminoles’ first of two special uniform nights on the schedule.
The Seminoles, San Diego State Aztecs and Haskell Indian Nations University Indians all wore their blue uniform sets on Monday. The color turquoise represents “harmony, friendship and fellowship in Native American culture.”
New Mexico and Gonzaga on the men’s side already wore their special uniform sets. Nevada will do so Tuesday night, while Marquette and Oklahoma State will do so Wednesday. Florida State will go back to the look on Dec. 17.
