Although they can’t be worn in games, custom cleats are all the rage in the NFL.
This week, that league mandate will change.
More than 500 players will get to showcase cool custom cleats with a purpose as part of the My Cause, My Cleats campaign.
The initiative is a culmination of 18 months of collaborative work between the NFL and players across the league, and it includes an online storytelling platform, in partnership with The Players’ Tribune. Throughout the season, participating players have worked with The Players’ Tribune to tell the stories behind their cleats via long-form features and profile cards.
Several players worked directly with Nike, Under Armour and adidas to design their custom kicks to wear during game action in Week 13.
The Dallas Cowboys released a video of their players getting a look at their custom cleats for the first time, and several spoke passionately about the causes they’ll be showcasing.

But the Cowboys aren’t the only team to participate. Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson will wear cleats pointing attention to the Stomp Out Bullying campaign. Johnson eloquently shared his childhood experience with bullying in a recent article in The Players’ Tribune.
Here’s some other custom cleats to be worn by NFL players this week.
