Pitchfork Preview: Arizona State football season in review

Another Sun Devil football season is in the books, as Arizona State finished their campaign 5-7 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
The Sun Devils started out strong going 5-1 through their first six games with convincing wins over Texas Tech, Cal and UCLA. That quickly changed as they dropped their final six games landing them in 4th place in the Pac-12 South.
Despite the disappointing season, there were some positives to take away:
Kalen Ballage’s eight touchdown night against Texas Tech, where the running back racked up 207 yards of total offense. He set school and Pac-12 record in the 68-55 win over the Red Raiders.
Zane Gonzalez’s record-breaking night against UCLA, as the kicker broke the NCAA record for field goals with his 89th made attempt in their 23-20 win over the Bruins.
Plus, six Sun Devils earned All-Pac-12 honors, marking the 37th straight season the Devils have had at least five postseason conference honors.
What’s next for the Sun Devil football program? We know it won’t be a coaching change. Arizona State’s Vice President for University Athletics Ray Anderson said Todd Graham will return as the head football coach next season.
The rest is unknown. The Sun Devils kick off the 2017-2018 season against New Mexico State.
