Arizona talks to Urban Meyer about coaching job

Nov 15, 2011, 11:32 PM | Updated: Nov 16, 2011, 12:45 am

The Arizona Wildcats need a new football coach, and
apparently athletic director Greg Byrne has his sights set
pretty high.

According to the New York Times, Greg Byrne met with
former Florida coach Urban Meyer early last week to discuss
the job.

The person said that Meyer, who has expressed his desire to
return to coaching, was intrigued but informed Byrne in a
telephone call Monday night that he was not going to pursue
the job.

Can’t fault a guy for trying, right?

The truth is the Wildcats likely never had a shot at Meyer,
but simply having word leak out that they are talking with
the man who will be the most sought after coach available
says something about what they are trying to accomplish in
the Old Pueblo.
