The Arizona Wildcats will debut a new look Saturday when they host the Oregon State Beavers.
Wildcats coach Rich Rodriguez announced Monday the team will don copper helmets for the game. It’s the first time they’ll do so this season.
“We are going to break out the copper helmet for the Oregon State game”, head Rodriguez said. “It’s not going to replace our school colors but it is a tribute to the mining history in our state. The guys will wear them in practice Wednesday and Thursday to get used to the fit. We will let the seniors pick the jersey and pants combination.”
Quarterback Matt Scott said the team will likely wear its navy pants/navy shirt combination to go with the copper helmet.
It is unclear if the helmet will be used in any other game this season.
