Expect Cardinals starters to play more this preseason

Getting ready for just their second preseason game, the Arizona Cardinals are not yet into the part of the season where they truly game plan for an opponent.

That makes it even more difficult to integrate a new quarterback, according to Cardinals insider Ron Wolfley.

“When you really start preparing for a team and becoming multi-faceted, Wolfley told Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf. “It gets more complicated.”

That is why, as Wolfley said (and Ken Whisenhunt has hinted), there’s a strong chance Kevin Kolb and the first team offense will see extended playing time Friday in Green Bay.

“There’s a possibility we might see him for even a half [Friday] night,” he said.

Because, as Wolfley noted, the best way to get the former Eagle QB — or any player, for that matter — comfortable in the offense is to let them play and then “teach off of film.”

Wolfley said that will be the case all throughout the preseason, adding that there is a good chance the Cardinals will have their starters — offense and defense — play a lot in third and fourth exhibition games, too.

That will be key for the Cardinals who, while trying to get Kolb up to speed with the offense, are working in an entirely new defense, too.

That is why, as Wolfley said, Ray Horton’s group will likely see extra playing time.

“I think we’re going to see a defense play a lot more, the number ones,” he said.
