When Cardinals offensive lineman Evan Mathis suffered a season-ending ankle injury, he immediately began thinking — and speaking — about the likelihood of retirement.

He’s holding that expectation after the 2016 season has ended. Mathis just doesn’t know how to go about it. The veteran went to Twitter to announce his retirement … by asking how to announce it.

A few of Mathis’ Arizona teammates offered their thoughts on Mathis’ request.

Notably, safety Tony Jefferson pointed out that Mathis claimed earlier this year that he would only forgo retirement if a team let him shift to play as a third-down pass rusher.

The 35-year-old Mathis signed with the Cardinals after winning a Super Bowl last year with the Denver Broncos. Mathis began the year as the starting right guard for an offensive line that suffered three season-ending injuries to the first-year Cardinal Mathis, starting left tackle Jared Veldheer and backup right tackle Ulrick John.

Mathis played in Week 1, 2, 4 and part of Week 5. The 12-year veteran has two Pro Bowl appearances and one First-Team All-Pro selection on his resume.
