Derrick Williams had to go pro, hard to blame him

Apr 22, 2011, 5:43 AM | Updated: 6:57 am

Derrick Williams knows what he’s going to miss.

“If I were to stay, we would have a great chance to win a
national championship, but at the same time, not too many
people get this opportunity, to move on to the next
level,” he said during what is his final press
conference
as an Arizona Wildcat. “I’ve been working
so hard, since I was in high school, just to get to this
point, and if you’re supposedly a top-five pick, you can’t
really turn that down.”

No, he couldn’t.

Of course, Wildcats fans wish he did turn the chance down.
Even Williams admitted that if he returned for his junior
season the Cats were likely to be a preseason top five
team and contender for a national title. But, after
consulting with everyone from head coach Sean Miller to
former Wildcats Luke Walton and Steve Kerr, the decision
was fairly obvious.
