Two highly touted recruits visit Wildcats in Tucson

PHOENIX – The campus at the University of Arizona is mostly empty with students on summer break, but that isn’t stopping the college from showing off to potential future basketball players.

The Wildcats hosted two high-level 2012-13 recruits, New Hampshire big man Kaleb Tarczewski and California guard Gabe York this month.

Both seem intrigued with the idea of playing in Tucson for Arizona according to the Arizona Daily Star.

“He loved it,” Etop Udo-Ema, York’s travel-team coach, said of York. “He came in with not very high expectations. But he left very impressed with Arizona. They put themselves in good position.”

Udo-Ema said York still has about 10 schools he’s considering but could make a decision anytime soon.

Meanwhile, the travel-team coach for Tarczewski, former Celtics assistant coach John Carroll, said the 7-footer probably will make a decision later this summer.

“He thought it was a good visit and came away seeing some important things about Arizona basketball and how it relates to him. Hopefully, he’ll take all this in, digest it, then forget about it for a while and come back in August.”

If Arizona can capitalize on their Elite Eight appearance in the tournament last season and continue adding high recruits like these two, it could ensure that Arizona regains its status as a college powerhouse.
