Northern Arizona Suns big man Johnny O’Bryant earned the D-League’s Performer of the Week honors Monday after leading his team to two victories by averaging 24 points, 17 rebounds and two steals per game.
O’Bryant scored 22 points and added a career-high 17 rebounds last Tuesday as Northern Arizona snapped a nine-game losing streak by ending the Oklahoma City Blue’s seven-game winning streak. He followed that up Saturday with another 17 boards and 26 points against the Grand Rapids Drive. The 6-foot-9, 257 forward out of LSU also hit a career-high four threes in a 31-point win.
For the year, O’Bryant is averaging 18 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 45 percent from the field.
The Northern Arizona Suns are 12-10 on the season.
O’Bryant, 23, played his previous two seasons for the Milwaukee Bucks, appearing in 100 games with 19 starts during that span. In 2015-16, he averaged 3.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
