ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — No. 12 UCLA got the ball to start both halves Saturday night after Texas botched the opening coin toss.
The Bruins won the coin toss and elected to defer their choice until the second half.
Texas then said it wanted to go on defense.
The referee then turned off his microphone and briefly said something to the Texas players after they were heard saying they would go on defense.
But the ref then announced that UCLA deferred to the second half and that the Bruins would also receive to start the game, while a clearly displeased Texas coach Charlie Strong watched from the sideline.
