Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris was ejected after a hard foul on Miami Heat guard and former teammate Goran Dragic in the third quarter of Monday night’s matchup in Miami.
Morris knocked Dragic to the ground on a fast-break layup attempt with 8:43 to play in the third quarter. Officials reviewed the play on a courtside monitor several times before deciding to assess Morris with a flagrant 2 foul, ejecting him from the game.
Dragic remained on the floor for a moment but soon got to his feet and appeared to be uninjured.
He was awarded two free throws for the technical foul. He made both of them.
The Heat went on to win 115-98 behind Dragic’s 21 points.
Along with the flagrant foul, Morris was assessed with a technical foul in the second quarter — his 13th such foul of the season.
After Saturday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Morris criticized Suns fans for what he called a lack of support at home games.
Dragic was traded from the Suns to the Heat moments before the Feb. 19 trade deadline.
