Diamondbacks best Marlins behind Chase Anderson’s strong outing: By the Numbers

Chase Anderson reached a career-high eight innings pitched and allowed just four hits in a 6-1 win over the Miami Marlins Tuesday night.

The win is Arizona’s (18-21) third straight over the Marlins, who have now lost six in a row — the last three of which have come under new manager Dan Jennings.

A.J. Pollock stole three of the D-backs’ six stolen bases, snagging second, third and home for the first time in team history. Aaron Hill, Nick Ahmed and Tuffy Gosewisch contributed a stolen base each in the effort.

David Peralta started things off with a groundout that scored Pollock, followed by an RBI double by Ahmed — his second of the year.

Anderson then grounded out to send in Ahmed, and Pollock stole home in the fifth.

Pollock would score twice more with Peralta’s help via a sac-fly in the seventh and RBI single in the ninth.

Anderson came out after loading the bases in the ninth, and Brad Ziegler ceded a run but finished off the next two batters for the game.

Here were the numbers:

Anderson (1-1) also had two slick fielding plays to complement his pitching — and they came almost back-to-back in the third and fourth innings.

The first was a grounder he barehanded to first for the last out in the third, and the second was a fielded bunt to start off the defense in the fourth inning.

9

Anderson also faced the mimimum through the opening three innings (nine batters) after an early walk was erased by a double-play effort.

His opponent, Miami’s David Phelps, faced 15 batters through the first three innings and gave up three runs.

1

The first clean hit Anderson ceded came in the fifth inning from Martin Prado, who singled to left center. Anderson was able to retire the next three batters.

6 (part I)

The Diamondbacks offense drove in six runs of support for Anderson. The effort was the first time Arizona had managed at least five or more runs to back up Anderson.

5

Third baseman Yasmany Tomas went 2-for-5 against Miami, marking his fifth-straight multi-hit game. Tomas is hitting .346 with 18 hits in May and 10 hits in the last seven days alone.

6 (part II)

The D-backs’ six stolen bases were the most they’ve had this season (one less than a team record), and matched a team record for the Marlins in steals allowed (occurred three times).

7

Pollock’s stolen base at home was just the seventh time a D-backs player has done so in franchise history. The centerfielder has nine steals in his stat column this season. He had 12 in 2013 and 14 in 2014.

Pollock also went 3-for-4 with four runs and a walk.
